Values and behaviours

Our culture is driven by who we are and what we value, which, collectively, forms our company-wide identity. We have continued to roll out and embed our company values and behaviours in 2024 to more closely align with our purpose. These values and behaviours act as our moral compass and we strive to uphold them in everything we do.

Who we are

At Reconomy, our identity is rooted in four core attributes that guide our behaviour and shape our culture:

  • Real: We are rational, reasonable, and straightforward in our approach. We believe that what you see should be what you get – transparency and authenticity are fundamental to how we do business.
  • Inclusive: We are a welcoming, friendly, and positive team. We value and respect each other’s individuality and opinions, working together with openness and cooperation.
  • Collaborative: We treat each other equally and respectfully, embodying the principle of treating others as we wish to be treated. Our strength lies in our ability to share knowledge and build collective success.
  • Inventive: We are continually seeking smarter, more sustainable ways to work. Everyone contributes, and through our curiosity and creativity, we aim to solve problems and improve the world around us.

What we value

Our values reflect who we are and what we prioritise in our day-to-day work and wider impact. These principles guide how we work with our teams, customers, communities, and the environment.

  • Colleagues: We work together to bring out the best in ourselves and each other. Whether it’s through support, challenges, laughter, or learning, we build a collaborative culture that allows people to grow and succeed.
  • Customers: We are committed to helping our customers transition to a circular economy. Strong, trusting partnerships allow us to co-create ideas, innovate with purpose, and drive shared progress.
  • Community: We take action to make a difference in the lives of those around us. From our networks to local charities, our work supports social value, local opportunity, and long-term, positive change.
  • Environment: We take sustainability seriously – not as an add-on, but as an operating principle. Circularity is embedded in our business, and we strive to reduce impact and regenerate resources for future generations.

Championing recognition

The ‘We Are Reconomy’ Awards celebrate achievements across all brands and levels. In 2024, we received over 600 nominations across 10 categories, from Business Growth Guru to Colleague of the Year. In 2025, we’re on track to smash our target for nominations by a considerable distance.

We also worked with pupils from Severndale Academy to design trophies from recycled materials, supporting skills development and circularity while celebrating success.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our DEI strategy puts belonging at the core of our business.

In 2024, we:

  • Embedded ‘Inclusive’ as a core value
  • Rolled out a culture playbook and implementation guide
  • Implemented a global engagement survey with new inclusion metrics
  • Signed the Race at Work Charter

We support a range of employee networks focused on LGBTQ+ inclusion, menopause support, and mental health. Our Supporting Women in Reconomy initiative enhanced maternity/adoption leave, created guidance for managers, and piloted leadership programmes with 50% female participation.

Case study: Social value in action

A partnership between Reconomy, McDonald’s, Murray & Willis and YMCA Together, Liverpool branch, has facilitated the reuse of restaurant furniture from a newly refurbished McDonald’s restaurant, located at Poplar 2000 services in Lymm, Warrington. In doing so, it has both prevented these resources from being wasted and created a reuse opportunity that benefits both the community and the wider environment.
