Balfour Beatty – The Krizevac Project

Enabling Circularity in the construction industry

Reconomy speciliast brand, Reconomy Connect, recently supported its client, Balfour Beatty, with a construction project in Reading, helping to find a reuse solution for material deliveries packaged in geotextile layers with aluminium foil sheets.

While Balfour Beatty initially reached out to local community gardens and charities, the sheer volume (approximately 7,000m³) was too large for them to manage. That is when the Reconomy Connect Circularity Team, leveraging their extensive network, suggested the Krizevac Project, a charity based in Stoke. The Krizevac Project is now working to repurpose this material by shipping it to Malawi, where it will contribute to the construction of schools, nurseries, and universities.

It was a fantastic team effort, as Balfour Beatty also provided the one tonne bags and the logistics to move the material from the site in Reading to the charity in Stoke.

  • Problem: 7,000m³ of geotextile layers with aluminium foil sheets.
  • Solution: Reconomy Connect worked with Balfour Beatty to find a reuse solution.
  • Result: A great result, with the Krizevac Project using the material for construction in Africa.

We're thrilled that the donated materials have found a new home for a great cause, helping to build nurseries, schools, and universities in Malawi. Thanks to the team at Reconomy Connect for connecting us with the Krizevac Project charity.

We all have an important part to play in improving circularity and being more resource efficient.
