Reconomy welcomes the Italian Ministry’s commitment to Textile EPR, marking a major step toward a circular textiles system
Turin, Italy – October 29, 2025
Reconomy welcomes the Italian Ministry of the Environment’s commitment to introduce Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation for textiles by the first quarter of 2026, a pivotal development in Italy’s transition toward a more circular and sustainable textiles economy.
A milestone for circular fashion in Italy
The announcement was made by Laura D’Aprile, Head of the Department for Sustainable Development at the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE), during the Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum on October 24.
This follows MASE’s earlier public consultation on a draft decree establishing an EPR system that will cover apparel, footwear, accessories, leather goods, and home textiles. The move represents a major policy shift towards keeping resources in use for longer and embedding circularity across Italy’s textile value chain.
ReDress Italy leading industry readiness
ReDress Italy, Reconomy’s Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) for Textile EPR, has welcomed this milestone as a clear sign of the country’s commitment to practical, measurable sustainability action.
“Even though the PROs have not yet been formally recognised, they are already working to build the infrastructure needed to implement textile EPR by 2026,” said Sara Faccioli, President of the Board of ReDress and Managing Director of RLG Systems Italia.
“ReDress is proposing the creation of an operational working group, coordinated by the Ministry, to move forward in a structured and effective way.”
Driving alignment across the circular value chain
By establishing a national EPR system for textiles, Italy is positioning itself among Europe’s frontrunners in sustainable production and design. The initiative demonstrates growing collaboration between public institutions, producers, recyclers, and policymakers, all working to accelerate the shift from a linear to a circular textiles economy.
With global expertise in circular solutions, Backed by Reconomy’s global expertise in circular systems, ReDress Italy helps producers meet their environmental obligations through collection, sorting, reuse, and recycling infrastructure. As the regulatory framework evolves, ReDress will continue working alongside MASE and key industry stakeholders to ensure an effective, fully operational system by 2026.
