Brake Bros Ltd is one of the UK’s leading suppliers to the catering industry, providing regional services supported by a national network of depots, with a turnover of more than £2 billion. The Brakes Group has been committed to reducing the environmental impact the business has on both the communities they serve and recognised that one way was to improve their recycling and waste management
The solution
With multiple and varying sites across the UK, this was going to be a substantial undertaking to ensure that all the objectives were met. Reconomy was invited to tender for the business and became their preferred waste and recycling service provider in 2006. To this day we continue in an exclusive partnership with the leading UK foodservice supplier. We currently service all 57 of their sites, providing fully managed, one-stop-shop waste and recycling solutions and as with many of our partners, the goal of Zero Landfill is a primary objective. Innovation and environmentally focused initiatives, based upon the waste hierarchy, have seen the recycling rates at Brakes continually improving whilst also providing ongoing cost savings and added value. In the first year alone we were able to provide a 10% saving on their waste management costs, whilst drastically improving their environmental performance and helping them to gain their ISO 14001 accreditation.
