Reconomy expands partnership with local Shropshire academy to deliver tangible benefits for local communities
Reconomy, the leading international circular economy specialist, is pleased to announce that it has deepened its partnership with Severndale Academy in Shrewsbury, Shropshire through a growing set of initiatives.
Building on the success of last year’s We are Reconomy Awards, students from the specialist academy were once again invited to design and create the trophies from recycled and recyclable materials for this year’s awards celebrating the hard work and dedication of Reconomy colleagues. Some of the students attended the conference where the awards were handed out and were thanked for their hard work and creativity in making the trophies. In addition, Reconomy funded a residential trip to visit Liverpool for Severndale students, which was a great opportunity for them to broaden their horizons and celebrate their achievements.
Severndale Academy is a specialist academy and part of the Learning Community Trust, a multi academy trust working across Shropshire and Telford. The partnership forms part of The Reconomy Social Value Programme (RSVP), which supports a range of community initiatives that promote wellbeing and provide opportunities for people from hard-to-reach backgrounds. Since 2018, Reconomy has delivered £5.3million in social value with plans to further expand these efforts in the years ahead.
Dave Reynolds, Brand Manager at Reconomy, said: “We were delighted to work again with Severndale for our We are Reconomy Awards 2025. The trophies were stunning, handmade pieces and the talented, enterprising students came up with a new design concept taking what they created last year to another level. The feedback from our staff was fantastic and it was pleasing to see the lasting impact this project has had on the students. At Reconomy, we are committed to creating meaningful social value wherever we operate and look forward to continuing our partnership with Severndale.”
Liz Harrison, Assistant Principal at Severndale, said: “The students absolutely loved participating last year and were thrilled to be invited again to create trophies for this year’s awards. Our students got to learn more about recycling and Reconomy’s Close the Gap campaign highlighting the pressing need for greater circularity. They were particularly thrilled to have the opportunity to join this year’s Reconomy conference, interact with members of the Reconomy team and be personally congratulated for their hard work designing the trophies.
“Following the success of this project, another large local company has approached us to create the trophies for their awards. Additionally, Reconomy’s funding of the Liverpool trip was phenomenal as many of our students don’t often get the opportunity to experience life outside Shropshire. We are delighted that our wonderful students feel so valued by the local community and are extremely grateful to Reconomy for the support and time they have given them.”
