Senior Software Development & Business Systems Manager

Based at Valpak Ltd, Stratford-upon-Avon

As the Senior Software development & Business Systems Manager your primary objective is to work with the management team and broader business to deliver relevant and timely software solutions in support of our service development and delivery. You will lead our technical teams to build flexible, modern, resilient software solutions in a pragmatic manner; balancing commercial and technical drivers to deliver the right solution at the right time within budget.

You will be an experienced engineer who understands and exemplifies what good looks like across all software engineering disciplines. You will drive the adoption of best practice across all of Valpak’s software delivery streams, spanning all engineering disciplines from requirements analysis to automated release. You will support the continuous professional development of the technical teams, identifying skills gaps and putting in place effective remediation plans. You keep abreast of industry trends and new technologies, and you understand when to buy vs. build, seeking to employ low-code and no-code solutions where appropriate. You are a skilled practitioner, able to confidently communicate to technical and non-technical stakeholders whilst being credible and influential across departments.

Experience and skills

  • Demonstrable experience at a senior level engineering complex software and data systems with a high number of users and large data volumes, using the Microsoft stack (C#, SQL Server, ASP.Net Core, MVC)
  • Experience of cloud and serverless architectures, specifically in Microsoft Azure
  • Experience and understanding of containerisation using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience of multiple agile and CI/CD tools e.g. Jira, TFS, Azure Devops, Github, Jenkins
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral; a confident presenter to all stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge and experience of the entire software development lifecycle
  • Experience of leading a team of engineers & working as part of an agile team
  • Experience of using modern software development practices including automated testing, TDD, DevOps, CI/CD
