The countdown to COP26
It’s time to act
Let us help you achieve net zero waste
What is COP26?
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (also known as COP26) is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference and takes place in Glasgow between 31 October and 12 November 2021. It will bring together heads of state, climate experts and campaigners to agree action to tackle climate change.
Countries are being asked to come forward with ambitious 2030 emissions reductions targets that align with reaching net zero by the middle of the century. To deliver on these stretching targets, countries will need to:
• accelerate the phase-out of coal
• curtail deforestation
• speed up the switch to electric vehicles
• encourage investment in renewables.
Why is COP26 important?
Many people see COP26 as the most significant climate event since the 2015 Paris Agreement – when all the signatories to the UNFCC agreed to keep temperatures well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
COP26 is critical because it’s the first moment when countries must set out more ambitious goals for ending their contribution to climate change under the Paris Agreement.
