Reconomy make a splash in Charity Dragon Boat Race

Himley Hall played host to this year’s eagerly anticipated Annual Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 20th May with just short of 30 teams, ranging from SME’s, Schools and Fitness Clubs, all taking part.  The competition, run by the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton, consisted of each team competing in 3 heats with the 12 fastest teams of the day moving forward into the finals.
Reconomy’s team of young hopefuls arrived early brimming full of enthusiasm and confidence having assessed the competition in the opening races of heat one.  Sadly this early optimism soon drained following Reconomy’s first heat and a realisation that it wasn’t as easy as it looked.
Despite winning the race and recording a time of 1 minute and 30 seconds, the team was a little behind some of the early pace setters leaving much improvement to be made for the second round.
A rotated squad and improved sense of timing saw an enhanced performance in the second heat with the team shaving 2 seconds of their time, recording their fastest time of the day at 1 minute 28 seconds.
It was all to play for in the final heat, with Reconomy required to shave a further 3-5 seconds off their best time to stand any chance of making the final cut.
With a valiant effort the team again rowed to victory in their final heat with a slower time of 1 minute 30 seconds which sadly was not enough to take the team through to the finals.  Having trailed by some 2 ““ 3 meters at the half way stage it was a tremendous effort to pull through as winners, ensuring a 100% undefeated record.
Reconomy would like to thank the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton for a fantastically well run event and for giving Reconomy the opportunity to take part in such a great day.
In addition to this, a huge thank you must be said to all those who gave up their time to take part and for those who came to show their support on the day. It was a huge success and a great day was had by all.
