Japanese Knotweed

Reconomy Solutions, then called Wastefile UK was commissioned by William Davis to provide expert advice and quality assessment of Japanese Knotweed control on a site in Handsworth, Birmingham due for Residential build.

Reconomy Solutions role was to source and oversee the herbicide contractor on-site and ensure control work was undertaken to a high standard while accounting for the legislative and ecological restrictions.

In addition, the provision of works included the pre-treatment preparation of established knotweed growth for herbicide control.

The knotweed was levelled by hand to approximately 18inches, with the off cuts gathered and stacked on the concrete surfing adjacent to the growth. Due care and attention was adopted during the removal of the cuttings and in their storage to prevent any spreading.

Following this stage, the remaining Japanese Knotweed was treated with a herbicidal solution with the site continually monitored during the following growth seasons to ensure successful eradication.

On completion of works, Reconomy Solutions conducted a viability assessment of treated material and treated areas, which provided early confirmation of control success and allowed development to begin in advance of the original schedule.
