100% Recycling Solution

Pre-project meetings were held on site at Tamworth in Spring 2008, to discuss remodel and development works to the current store, and the adjoining store to create a singular large Marks & Spencer retail unit.

WB projects had been tasked by Marks & Spencer to achieve 90% recycling of all waste production during the project, with additional focus not just on service environmental management issues and reporting.

As such, Reconomy Solutions, then called Wastefile UK were tasked not only with waste removal from site but to also guarantee recycling levels of each waste stream, minimise the carbon footprint by utilising local suppliers and provide accurate waste reporting to aid with the management of the Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP).

Plasterboard Recycling

As part of the detailed SWMP, all plasterboard waste streams removed throughout the duration of the project were transported to local waste transfer station in 40yd RollOnOffs to be stockpiled separately prior to bulk transport on Walking Floor Trailers to a licensed recycling/reprocessing facility in Lincolnshire. To further minimise the carbon footprint and increase transport efficiencies, the loads formed part of a reverse haulage operation managed by the transport contractor.

At the recycling/reprocessing facility, plasterboard waste was processed and separated into gypsum and paper, with gypsum utilised into new plasterboard manufacture and the paper recycled through new paper manufacture and animal bedding. In total, Reconomy Solutions facilitated the recycling of nearly 150 tonnes of plasterboard waste representing significant landfill diversion.

Reconomy Solutions Plasterboard Recycling offering not only guaranteed 100% Recycling and Zero to Landfill thus assisting Marks & Spencer's Plan A and commitment to Sustainable Development; it also proves significantly more cost effective compared to landfill disposal, and a "win-win" situation with many benefits to all involved.

As part of the project, Reconomy Solutions also provided viable recycling options of specified segregated waste streams, including scrap metals, MDF/Chipboard, inert waste, hazardous waste and vinyl floor tiles, as part of the SWMP.
