Correct Soil Classification and Removal can create huge savings

Reconomy Solutions, then called Wastefile UK were initially approached by ROK to analyse test data relating to various stockpiles of contaminated material on their Newcastle site. ROK had been experiencing difficulties with classifying soils, and existing suppliers had classified all the material as hazardous waste due to two of the tests having elevated TPH levels.

Following analysis of the data and subsequent to a site visit to take a look at the physical locality of the material, the following was established:

We could successfully segregate out the hazardous hotspots for the remainder of the material to reduce quantities to approximately 4 loads (35m3)
The remainder and bulk of the material could be re-classified and removed from site to a "non-hazardous" site.
With this in mind, we were able to remove the material in two parts, as both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, making ROK a saving of £66,039.70, on the basis that the service provider was taking the hazardous material for treatment.

The above scenario was a simple case of understanding the source of the test data and the existing situation on site. This was successfully interpreted by close liaison with ROK site personnel and working with them to resource the most cost efficient & effective off site disposal option.
