Infrastructure Product - Tip & Collect

Reconomy Solutions, then called Wastefile UK met with May Gurney Utilities in Manchester with a view to supplying their various sites with fill sand and Mot type 1, following an initial waste enquiry.

May Gurney work throughout the United Kingdom for various utility companies, primarily repairing and replacing damaged drains, pipes or cables. This involves digging down to the depth of the damaged materials, often under roads and footpaths, removing waste spoil and replacing it with new materials.

Reconomy Solutions identified a number of satellite depots throughout the North West region, and provided cost comparisons to May Gurney, illustrating the potential cost savings. We recognized that not only were May Gurney arranging for aggregate to be delivered to site by outside companies, but they were only utilising 14 tipping locations throughout the whole North West region, which were often considerable distances from site, costing both time and money in time spent away from site and additional mileage travelled.

Following the meeting, Reconomy Solutions identified all transfer stations and recycling centres within the region that were able to accept utility waste. We also worked with these suppliers to enable high quality recycled aggregates to be collected and be taken back to the job. This step ensured that the grab wagon drivers had access to around 50 locations, where they could both tip waste and collect a recycled aggregate, in place of the 14 locations that were previously available.

Reconomy Solutions were able to offer considerable savings on both tipping rates and collection of aggregates throughout the region, and establish set rates for tipping and collection, enabling May Gurney to manage the contract with the confidence and reassurance of fixed costs.

The increased number of tipping and collection points ensured that grab wagons travelled considerable less distance, reducing mileage and wait time, increasing project efficiency and reducing overall costs. In addition through Reconomy Solutions assurance of quality, the use of recycled material over quarried aggregate further reduced cost, through a sustainable alternative.

To maintain the high standard of service that we demand, we keep in constant contact with both the drivers and the operation managers, ensuring any issues are immediately reconciled and all requirements are provided to the best of our ability.

We provided a consolidated weekly and monthly report highlighting costs, materials, tip and collection depots, and recycling percentages.

Also working with the May Gurney team we were able to calculate the considerable carbon footprint efficiencies we had been able to implement through better controlled vehicle management, thus assisting May Gurney on their company strive for continous improvement in this area.
